Scenic Palermo Sicily, Neighbor To Dazzling Mondello Beach

Palermo Sicily. It's the biggest city and main port of the island. Not to mention the capital of Sicily. It's also the center of the island's agricultural trade. There are many factories used for food processing, steelmaking, shipbuilding, and the manufacture of furniture, leather products, glass, chemicals, cement, textiles, and paper.

Palermo Sicily's greatest attraction, however is Palazzo dei Normanni (Palace of the Normans). If you visit just one sight in Palermo this should be it. It's history is traced back to the 9th century.

Just west of Palermo is Mondello Beach: a dream come true for lovers of seafood, crystal clear water, lovely tree lined streets and fantastic summer resorts. The beach is lined with elegant houses and cabins. It's popular in season, enjoyable in the off-season and a hit with the Palermo locals. The seafood restaurants are out of this world. There's a public bus service from Palermo to Mondello for those without transportation.

In the early 1900s, the well-to-do Sicilians had this area drained and built their elegant summer homes in the trendy art nouveau style. Over the century Mondello became filled with little shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Mondello Beach has become one of the most attractive of all the Sicilian beaches. Such a beautiful place.

Mondello is a favorite beach for many who visit Palermo, since it's so close (just 11 km) from the capital. It has one of the most beautiful shorelines of the island, partly because of the pristine white sand and deep-sea bed. Mondello Beach is 1.5km long and is located between Monte Pellegrino and Monte Gallo. The Art Noveau architecture gives this summer resort an unmistakable elegance that you won't find anywhere else.

Once a year Palermo Sicily's World Festival on the Beach is held in Mondello. Events include: windsurfing, beach volleyball, sky diving, paragliding, kite surfing, sailing, golf, jazz, a photography contest and a lot more. The event always attracts a large crowd. And what better place than this lovely golden beach with all it's tropical colors? And this paradise is only a few hours away from many of the other treasures in Sicily.

It is a breathtakingly beautiful beach, and Mondello's nearby streets have many restaurants, bars and ice cream stands. Even though the beach is pretty large, it can become quite crowded in the summer months when school is not in session. Although, Palermo's students have also been known to ditch school for a day at the beach.

If you visit only one Sicilian beach this year you should make it Mondello Beach. Simply the most stunning of all the island's beaches. Once you're there, you won't want to go home.
