Explore Favignana Sicily, A Breathtaking Jewel Of The Sicilian Islands

Gorgeous Favignana Sicily is one of the three Sicilian islands off the coast of Trapani. Glorious sparkling-clear water can be found all along it's coastline. Of all the Mediterranean islands this is one of my favorites and I think it'll become your's also. Italian history believes that on the map of Sicily, Favignana was once part of the main isle.

Because of it's butterfly-like shape, the island has often been referred to as "La Farfalla." The isle covers approximately 20 square miles. The west coast is more mountainous. The east is flatter and is where the main town is located.

There are 2 main beaches in Favignana. South of the town of Cala Azzurra is a small beach by the bay. A little west of this is a large beach called "Lido Burrone." There's an hourly shuttle service for those without transportation.

Some find the rocky bays more exciting. This is where the tufa quarries once existed. Some are still intact with dark, mysterious passageways that can be be explored. Lots of fun for the adventurous. The Cala Rotonda, Cala Grande and Punta Ferro are three very beautiful bays which can be found on the other half of the island. Punta Ferro is also a very popular spot for divers.

This island is the biggest of the Egidean Islands. These islands have always been known for their tuna fishing. More recently they have become popular as summer resorts. Favignana is a favorite destination for beach-goers.

The ferries from Trapani bring you to the port at Favignana. At that point, transportation to the other islands (Levanzo, Marettimo) is easily found. Most of the beach-combers are Italian. Lately, though, visitors from other places have been flocking to this beautiful land for their Sicily vacation and I can't say I blame them...
